Artificial intelligence has transitioned from the pages of science fiction books and movies to the everyday life of each one of us. Every day we communicate with chatbots that help us instead of human operators, we receive recommendations when shopping in online stores; we have personalized content and advertising in social networks, we use smart things or live in smart houses, make medical diagnoses or forecast currency rates with the help of AI.
Modern AI technologies make it possible to analyze videos and images in real time, which can increase the safety of citizens, optimize traffic in large cities, and help choose the fastest routes. Even more, today’s generative AI is capable of solving quite creative tasks: GPT chat successfully writes resumes, essays and term papers, and Midjourney generates fantastic paintings and illustrations.
But as the use of AI becomes more widespread, the tasks that are entrusted to machines become more responsible and complex, humanity often thinks about possible challenges: is it safe to delegate the important tasks to AI? Is the use of AI ethical for all tasks? Will AI-based decision-making create a discrimination problem? Does the state need to control the processes of development and use of AI at the legislative level?
All these issues will be discussed at the Summer School «EU and AI: the European approach to Artificial Intelligence», which is organized by the ACS Department, Lviv Polytechnic National University, as part of the implementation of the Erasmus+ educational project Jean Monnet Module «Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence: the European Approach» (No. 101085626 – TrustAI – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH):
- Modern AI technologies: opportunities, prospects, and limitations;
- European approach to machine learning;
- Trustworthy artificial intelligence: an approach based on risk assessment;
- New regulatory framework for AI: ethical AI.
In practical sessions, invited experts will talk about best practices and interesting tasks of using Big Data and AI.
