The use of digital technologies in education has many advantages: learning becomes more interesting, engaging, personalized, and accessible to students. The benefits of using digital technologies in distance learning have become especially tangible. Thanks to such platforms as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, school and university students could study remotely without interruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of various tests and quests, such as Kahoot or Mentimeter, has made learning more interactive, and the use of the latest immersive technologies, such as augmented or virtual reality, helps to dive deeper into the subject area and greatly increases student interest and visibility of the material.
This is why education is one of the most promising areas of application of augmented and virtual reality technologies. Therefore, the Department of Automated Control Systems, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University, runs the Summer School «Digital Education for Academics. Augmented Reality in Education», organized as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet educational project, the module Augmented Reality for Education: implementation of European experience, № 101085772 – AR4EDU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH. It will present not only existing developments in the field of augmented and virtual reality for education, but also show how to create and develop such products.
The program includes interesting lectures by augmented reality experts, master classes with demonstrations of finished products, practical tests of various products and games using Oculus Quest 2 VR glasses. Interesting cases of AI applications for academic staff will also be discussed.
During the Summer School, a team project is planned, as a result of which participants will be able to develop their own modern educational product.
The organizers invite teachers and academic staff from all fields of knowledge and areas to participate in the Summer School, which will give them a great opportunity to improve their knowledge in the use of digital technologies, learn how to apply them and make indispensable teachers’ assistants, how to increase student engagement in the learning process, and make the learning process vivid, interesting, and memorable.
According to the results of the Summer School «Digital Education for Academics. Augmented Reality in Education», participants will receive certificates of advanced training in the amount of 2 ECTS credits (60 hours).
The school will be held on June 17–21, 2024, in a mixed format: online and offline at the Department of Automated Control Systems, Lviv Polytechnic (room 104, V academic building, 28a Bandery St.).
