On Friday, August 12, a lecture by Roksolana Havaliuk «100-year anniversary of M. Lysenko in the conditions of the German occupation of Lviv» will be held at 16:00 in the reading room of the Scientific and Technical Library, Lviv Polytechnic National University (1 Profesorska St.).

The event is organized by the Ukrainian Photographic Society (UPHOTO) in cooperation with the Lviv Photo Museum and the Scientific and Technical Library, Lviv Polytechnic University.

The 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko was on March 22, 1942. At that time, Lviv was under German occupation. Our uneasy year 2022 is also a jubilee year for the artist (180 years since his birthday) and a solemn concert in his honour on the square in front of the Opera House ended with an air alarm signal. As now, as then, the significant dates of our classical music composer we have to celebrate not only with the mobilization of the highest quality creativity, but also by showing our civic position and considerable courage.

In 1942, the efforts of musicians – professionals and amateurs, scientists and composers, and Ukrainian radio editors – were coordinated by the specially created Jubilee Lysenko committee, which combined different areas of work: concert, publishing, educational, exhibition and other activities. And since the composer’s son and daughter, who lived and worked in our city at that time, directly participated in them, the significance of each of the creative events acquired historical importance. The result was really impressive. Therefore, at the lecture, we will talk about creativity, devotion, ingenuity, and courage, as well as about real, active patriotism in the conditions of war.
