Dear researchers, academic staff, students and everyone interested!
On Monday, September 16, the Department of Applied Physics and Nanomaterials, the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic, invites you to attend an open lecture on the topic «Two-dimensional carbides and nitrides (MXenes) for advanced technologies» by Professor Yury Gogotsi, a prominent Ukrainian-American scientist, Director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering Programs at Drexel University.
MXenes are a family of two-dimensional (2D) carbides, nitrides, oxycarbides, transition metal carbonitrides and related structures. MXenes have ushered in an era of atomistic design of 2D materials. MXenes have electronic, optical, mechanical and electrochemical properties that distinguish them from other materials. Many MXenes are metals, but with an adjustable density of states at the Fermi level, like semiconductors. Furthermore, their properties can be tuned through design and modulated using an iontronic approach, leading to breakthroughs in fields ranging from optoelectronics, electromagnetic interference shielding and communications to energy storage, catalysis and healthcare. In several applications, such as electromagnetic interference shielding, MXenes have already outperformed all other materials. At this lecture, I will discuss their scalable synthesis from inexpensive precursors, the structure and surface chemistry of MXenes, their electrochemical and optoelectronic properties, and potential applications.
The meeting will start at 10 a.m. in the Assembly Hall of Lviv Polytechnic National University (12, St. Bandery St.).
