Despite the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, there are successes in the field of intellectual property: the number of applications for industrial property rights in the first quarter of 2024 increased by almost 30% compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, the number of trademark applications filed (6,524) exceeded not only last year’s figure but also that of 2020.
In general, comparing the same periods in 2023 and 2024, it can be stated that the filing rates for utility model applications (39.9%) and trademark applications (33.9%) have increased significantly, but the number of industrial design applications remained almost unchanged, and the number of inventions slightly decreased (7.9%).
The most active among the institutions of higher education subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2024 were:
- Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv University of Air Force – 27 applications;
- Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University – 24;
- Vinnytsia National Technical University – 24;
- Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport – 23;
- Lviv Polytechnic National University – 22.
