On March 11, on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko, Lviv Polytechnic National University together with the Prosvita regional society organized a literary and artistic evening in the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk.
For the second year in a row, Prosvita Society at Lviv Polytechnic National University together with the regional society Prosvita held the Shevchenko evening in Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk. The Artistic Director of the event was Stepan Shalata, Director of the Prosvita People’s House, Lviv Polytechnic, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine. The evening was moderated by Sofiia Pershyna and Roman Muzyka, members of the Khochu (I Do Want) Theatrical Studio.
Shevchenko’s works managed to awaken and develop national consciousness in generations of Ukrainians who read and discussed his works.
His works show us that struggle is precisely the means of achieving freedom and happiness. According to Khrystyna Burshtynska, Taras Shevchenko worried about indifference, and his rebellion spilled over into creativity.
With Shevchenko’s words, Ukrainians went to fight for the independence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, to the ranks of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, to the Revolution of Dignity and in the end – to defend our state from the Russian invasion today, writing the poet’s words on bulletproof vests.
– Since 1991, we probably began to read him less, as we did not heed the warning of Shevchenko, who warned that there is an eternal threat to Ukrainian statehood from the north, that there is a people who reinforce the idea of capturing someone else, supporting their tsar, said Yaroslav Pitko, head of the Lviv Regional Prosvita Society.
Russia’s aggression has somewhat aroused interest in Shevchenko, because his words are still relevant today. His call to fight for the freedom of the Ukrainian nation resonates in our hearts.
The concert started with a choral performance of Taras Shevchenko’s «Testament» to the music of Hordii Hladkyi.
The works to the poet’s words were performed by the Gaudeamus National Students’ Choir, the Akolada National Chamber Vocal Ensemble, the Suziria Pop Song Ensemble, the Zaspiv National Female Bandore Band, the Orpheus National Male Choir, and members of the Khochu (I Do Want) Theatrical Studio, including Yaryna Ivashchyshyn, Yuliia Haponiuk and Roman Muzyka.
The Polyphonia Chamber Orchestra and the People’s Symphony Orchestra enchanted the guests with their musical performance. Also the audience could enjoy music to Shevchenko’s works written by Viktor Vlasov and Dmytro Kokhanskyi, as well as the performance of the Virnist (Faithfulness) National Dance Group.
