At the end of August 2025, Lviv Polytechnic National University once again confirmed its leading role in international research cooperation. As coordinator of the Horizon Europe HELIOS project, the University organized a Summer School in Palanga, Lithuania, within the framework of the 27th International Conference-School “Advanced Materials and Technologies.”

The event gathered doctoral students, young researchers, and project partners from across Europe. For many of them, this was the first time they could combine conference participation with hands-on training in vital research skills such as scientific writing and presentation techniques.

“Our aim was to give young scientists not only knowledge but also confidence,” said Prof. Iryna Yaremchuk, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of Lviv Polytechnic and Coordinator of HELIOS project. “These skills are essential for building careers and ensuring that Ukrainian and European research voices are heard worldwide.”

Two interactive workshops became the heart of the Summer School. Prof. Peter Skabara (University of Glasgow) guided participants through the process of writing a scientific paper, while Dr. Audrius Bučinskas (Kaunas University of Technology) shared strategies for creating impactful scientific presentations. Students actively asked questions, received feedback, and practiced applying what they learned.

The programme also included a working dinner and closing discussions, which gave participants the chance to build professional connections and strengthen collaboration across borders.

“Events like this prove the strength of our consortium and the importance of international partnership,” Prof. Yaremchuk added. “They also demonstrate how Lviv Polytechnic contributes to the development of the next generation of researchers in Ukraine and beyond.”

The HELIOS Summer School not only strengthened ties between partner universities in Ukraine, the Baltic States, the UK, and Luxembourg but also highlighted Lviv Polytechnic’s commitment to preparing young scientists for the challenges of global research.

Through its ongoing efforts, the HELIOS consortium is shaping a new generation of researchers, empowering them with the knowledge and communication skills to drive innovation and meet the world’s pressing challenges in materials science and optoelectronics.
