On 21 March 2025, the International Symposium «Ukrainian Education Abroad: Mission and Vision» will be held in a hybrid format – offline in the main building of Lviv Polytechnic National University (room 214, 12 Bandery St.) and online (on the Zoom platform) under the auspices of the UWC International Educational Coordinating Council. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. (Kyiv time).
Due to the large-scale invasion of the Russian aggressor and the large number of children and young people forced to leave Ukraine, the Symposium would deal with the problem of preserving the national identity of those who have decided or plan to stay abroad.
- How not to lose contact with Ukraine?
- How can we help Ukrainian schools abroad?
- How to keep Ukrainian children in the global Ukrainian community?
These and other issues will be discussed in the following formats:
- a presentation of the results of a qualitative sociological study «Ukrainian Saturday and Sunday Schools in Europe: Responses to the Challenges of the War»;
- a panel discussion on Ukrainian Education Abroad: Mission and Vision.
The results of the study will be presented by researchers from Lviv Polytechnic’s International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, who implemented the project. Its respondents are dozens of heads of Ukrainian Studies Schools from the UK, Spain, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic – the countries that, according to UN statistics, have received the largest number of Ukrainian migrant workers since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
The panel discussion with eminent speakers will focus on the issue of education as an outpost for preserving and strengthening Ukrainian national identity among Ukrainian children abroad, and thus on the vision of the future for Ukrainian education abroad and the role of the state of Ukraine and Ukrainian society in the development of this educational area.
The discussion will be attended by:
- Larysa Didkovska (Munich, Germany) – Professor, Rector of the Ukrainian Free University, Candidate of Psychological Sciences;
- Iryna Kliuchkovska (Lviv, Ukraine), Director of the IECDR, Honorary Professor at Lviv Polytechnic;
- Nadiia Kuzmychova (Kyiv, Ukraine), Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, sociologist;
- Liubov Liubchyk (Paris, France), Chair of the UWC International Educational Coordinating Council;
- Marharyta Sytnyk (Kyiv, Ukraine) – co-founder of the Holka civic initiative, manager of the Bridges of Ukraine project;
