Lviv Polytechnic invites representatives of the academic community, media and interested public to an open meeting with Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The event takes place in the Assembly Hall in the University’s main building (12 Bandery St.) on 25 June 2025.
During his visit to Ukraine, Mr. Berge will meet with students, teachers and researchers of Lviv Polytechnic to discuss the challenges facing the European community in the context of the war in Ukraine, the role of education and the academic environment in strengthening democracy, the rule of law, human rights protection, and the prospects for Ukraine’s European integration.
Mr Berge is expected to share his vision on the Council of Europe’s support for Ukrainian educational and cultural institutions, as well as the role of universities in the country’s post-war recovery.
Markiian Kliuchkovskyi, Executive Director of the Register of Damages Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, will also take part in the meeting.
The format of the event is a public presentation and a Q&A session. The language of the event is English. The beginning is at 10:00.

Bjørn Berge is an experienced Norwegian diplomat who has been Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe since 2021. He has been actively working to support democracy and the rule of law in EU member states, in particular in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
