Drawing and Painting Department was established in 1971.
The first head of the Department was a prominent architect and pedagogue Lypka R. Since 1987 the head of the Department was the then Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Cherkes B.
In 1990 the Department broadens its working profile and was renamed the History and Architecture Art Basics Department. In 1998 the Department was opened for preparing specialists in the Art (Design) major.
In 2003 the History and Architecture Art Basics Department was renamed the Design and Architecture Basics Department that is still headed by professor Cherkes B.
