Our department consists of two units: German unit, led by associate professor S.V.Druzhbiak PhD in Philology, and English unit, led by senior lecturer V.I.Holtvian. The teachers of these units give lectures only in foreign languages, so that our students having got into language environment could travel in foreign computer world.
In our department you can get Bachelor qualification — philologist, linguist, and translator; Specialist — computational linguist, translator (English, German or Japanese); Master — computer processing of language data and translation professional (English, German or Japanese).
Students of the department learn English as essential and German or Japanese at option. Students doing their Master’s degree study have an opportunity to learn Polish or French at option.
During studying in our department students get profound knowledge in theory and practice of translation, applied linguistics, contrastive linguistics and psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, modern investigation of linguistic theories, Informatics and Computer Hardware basics, database organization, machine translation system, application of object-oriented programming features in linguistic tasks, computer technological aspects of modern lexicographical systems engineering, linguistics and graphic aspects of Web design.
There are Intramural and Extramural education on the department.
Students have an opportunity to show knowledge gained on the department by taking part in annual All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Applied Linguistic.
Graduates of the Department are employed in translation agencies and big international corporations and official Ukrainian and foreign institutions. Also, the best graduates have an opportunity to carry out scientific doing postgraduate studies and to be teachers of the department.
