Lviv Polytechnic National University held different events within the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

Every year, on April 28, the International Labour Organization celebrates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work in order to draw the attention of employers and the public to problems related to safety and health at work. The main goal is to increase people’s vigilance in order to reduce the risk of injury at work.

According to Volodymyr Shepitchak, Head of the Department of Labor Protection, Lviv Polytechnic, the University has had a tradition of holding various events on this day for many years. However, due to the coronavirus disease and full-scale war, they took place online for three years. This year, an Open Forum «World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023» was held in the Assembly Hall of the main building of Polytechnic. During the event, the topic of a safe and healthy working environment was discussed within the framework of the panel discussion. Among the participants there were representatives of workers’ unions, Lviv Regional Military Administration and the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

– No one will take care of your health better than you. Thus, before performing any work, the employee must take into account all the pros and cons: whether the work is safe and will not have health risks. If a person neglects safety, the manager will not stand up and monitor the performance. At home we have relatives who wait for us, and want to see us healthy and cheerful. The main task of labour protection is to preserve the life and health of a person in the process of performing any work. Consciousness is not established in adulthood, but from childhood. That is why it is important to talk about it from an early age and set a good example for your children, said Volodymyr Shepitchak.

To raise awareness among schoolchildren of the western region, we held an art competition related to labour protection. 2500 children sent their works on this topic. Three groups were selected, and winners were chosen from each group, who had an interesting excursion in the main building of Polytechnic.

It is interesting to know that the Scientific and Technical Library also joined the activities related to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, offering a book exhibition for viewing. In particular, 41 editions from the library’s holdings covering the period 1896–2022 were demonstrated for all those interested. Among them there were 25 ancient books.
