International Scientific Seminar, organized by Polytechnicians, gathered practicing journalists and scientists

On the eve of Easter, on April 14, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Institute of Jurisprudence, Psychology and Innovative Education, Lviv Polytechnic, held the International Scientific Seminar «Media as Social Construction and Business: Ukrainian and World Experience».

It was here that scientists from Dnipro – Professor Mariia Butyrina and Assistant Professor Liliia Temchenko – for the first time presented their scientific developments and research on «Telegram as a medium of hybrid influences: channels and frames». Professor Yurii Finkler gave a speech «Convergence of media and digital platforms: the need of time and the global trend».

Professor Justyna Majchrowska, the University of Rzeszów, presented a report on «The problem of the coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the Ukrainian and foreign media» (Kilka słów o nagłówkach w polskich serwisach informacyjnych (na przykładzie wojny w Ukrainie)); Associate Professor Myroslava Rudyk, the Faculty of Journalism, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, made a speech on «The topic of the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2022 in the leading Polish media»; Anastasiia Simashova, senior lecturer at the Department of Journalism, Kamianets-Podіlskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, presented a report on «The coverage of the war in Ukraine by the Italian mass media: pluralism, disinformation and pro-Kremlin narratives».

It is very important that practicing journalists with many years of work experience also joined the international scientific seminar. These are, in particular, Yuliia Yanchar, a former presenter on the STB TV channel, and now a student of the German ASPEN Institute, head of the PR department of Olena Pinchuk Charitable Foundation (the topic of the report is «Personal Brand: Shifting Emphasis in Wartime»), Daryna Popil, journalist at Culture.pl, researcher, writer, Candidate of Sciences in Social Communications («Culture in the rear: impact on media and society (Ukrainian and foreign experience)»), Oleh Haliv, correspondent and presenter at Radio Svoboda («War in Ukraine as the main topic in the palette of national and world media: examples and characteristics») and Antin Borkovskyi, presenter of the TV channel «Espresso» («Change of information models in modern media»). By the way, the last two speakers teach at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Lviv Polytechnic.

Dmytro Sporniak, Master’s student at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Lviv Polytechnic, author and presenter of the historical YouTube channel «TOZH», joined the cohort of well-known speakers and shared his scientific works on the topic «Peculiarities of the Ukrainian popular science blogs».
