 Stabat Mater Карла Дженкінса

On April 13, in the House of Organ and Chamber Music, there will be a premier of Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins. It will be performed by the Galician Chamber Choir «Yevshan», accompanied by the People’s Symphony Orchestra of Lviv Polytechnic under the direction of Roman Kreslenko, with the participation of soloists Iryna Semeniuk and Tamila Mamedova.

Welsh composer and conductor Karl Jenkins is well known to music fans. Most of them probably have already heard his works – Palladio for string orchestra, choral work Adiemus ... He promotes multiculturality in his music, has a recognizable style, close to a crossover with elements of ethno, jazz and chill-out. Jenkins wrote Stabat Mater in 2008. This work, like the rest of the author’s early compositions, is characterized by a combination of Middle Eastern folk motifs and Western-European music. Therefore, the orchestra features wind and percussion instruments. Together with the canonical Latin text, Jenkins presents fragments and translations in English, Aramaic, Greek, Arabic and Hebrew.

Jenkins’s piece is about Virgin Mary’s suffering. The story is written in 12 parts, 6 of which contain text from other sources. One of the parts contains the repetition of the same phrase in different languages.
